Preventive Dentistry

Obtain a Clean, Healthy Smile

Preventive DentistryYour teeth and gums require both home care and professional dental care if you wish to maintain optimal oral health. Brushing twice daily and flossing once a day at home is a significant contributing factor to ensuring your teeth remain plaque-free. Removing plaque and caring for your oral tissues helps prevent oral disease, like tooth decay and periodontal disease (gum disease).

Preventive dentistry provides patients with the additional services necessary for enjoying truly clean teeth, detecting oral disease in its earliest stages, and recognizing potential concerns with supportive tissues, such as your jaw joints. By monitoring your oral health consistently, our team at Dental Associates of Moreno Valley can help you avoid long-term damage associated with dental issues, and may even prevent disease from developing at all.

Your Six-Month Dental Appointments

We encourage patients of all ages to visit us once every six months for a dental cleaning and checkup. During your visit, your dentist will perform:

  • A visual exam, looking for abnormalities or changes that have occurred since your last visit
  • A more detailed exam with the use of advanced imaging technology
  • An oral cancer screening
  • Complete removal of plaque from the surfaces of your teeth and from beneath your gumline
  • A tooth polishing
  • Periodontal maintenance, which allows the dentist to reverse and/or manage periodical disease and should be performed every six months

Treating Bite Concerns Preventively

Your dentist will examine the structures that support your oral cavity for signs of bite – or occlusion – issues like bruxism and TMJ disorder. Both bruxism (teeth grinding) and TMJ disorder (the improper functioning of your jaw joints) may result in daily discomfort and long-term damage when neglected. We will provide patients with comfortable night guards that will gently and noninvasively address the malocclusion. By relieving stress on your teeth and jaw joints, this oral appliance therapy will protect your smile and boost oral health.
