Correcting Misalignment

An uneven smile poses a risk to your overall oral health as well as your appearance. In order to achieve an even smile you need to seek orthodontic treatment. At the Dental Associates of Riverside we can provide braces, which will improve the alignment of your smile.

Do I Need Braces?

Braces are one of the most options for correcting misalignment. Metal orthodontics can address both minor and severe cases of malocclusion, improving the alignment and overall health of the smile. We typically recommend orthodontic treatment for people with misalignment because uneven teeth provide hiding places for harmful oral bacteria, increasing the chances of developing cavities and periodontal disease. The strain on the jaw joints from malocclusion may also lead to the onset of TMJ disorder or bruxism (teeth grinding).

How Do They Work?

The treatment begins with the doctor placing metal brackets onto the front of the teeth. An arch wire will be connected to the brackets, allowing the dentist to adjust the tension and move the teeth to an optimal setting. Treatment usually takes around 18 months to 2 years.

Can Anyone Receive Braces?

We may recommend this option for people who don’t qualify for Invisalign and require more serious orthodontic treatment. We will need to assess the cause and severity of your alignment issues before deciding the best choice for smile correction. If you have any questions please contact our office today.
