When it comes to choosing an orthodontic system to align your smile, you may feel a bit unsure about the best solution for your needs. Fortunately, we will always begin your journey toward a uniform grin with a consultation, so we can examine your oral cavity and identify your type of misalignment. We are well aware that patients often hope for Invisalign treatment because of its barely visible approach. However, if we suggest traditional braces for you, we do so because it is the best solution for your particular needs. Still have some questions? Find out more by considering some common questions and answers.

Q&A: Metal Braces

Question: What is included with traditional braces? Will they remain on my teeth or are they removable?

Answer: When you receive traditional metal braces, we will place brackets on each tooth that we plan on shifting. We place one bracket per tooth on the visible surface – not behind your tooth. After bonding the brackets, we will attach an arch wire to them. The wire will direct your teeth by gently pushing and pulling them into alignment over the course of your treatment.

Question: Why do I need metal braces instead of other options like Invisalign treatment?

Answer: If you do not qualify for Invisalign, it is likely because your type of misalignment is either something that requires individual brackets or your concern is too severe for clear braces. We will explain your needs and options during your consultation, so you feel positive and excited about making this change.

Question: How long will it typically take until my course of treatment is complete and my smile is aligned?

Answer: Each smile is unique, so there is not one set amount of time. However, traditional braces usually require a treatment time that lasts approximately one-and-a-half years to two years.
